Every Smile Starts with a Consultation
For your first consultation of our West Haven patients, CT Braces will inform you about the practice of orthodontics. You’ll also receive an initial exam and together, we’ll figure out what treatment plan best suits your needs. During your time here, we’ll discuss:
- Your dental and medical history
- A complete oral exam, with X-Rays, to determine whether treatment is necessary
- Work with you to create a customized treatment plan
- Discuss financial information, insurance options, and payment plans
After Your Initial Orthodontic Consultation
Once you’ve had your initial consultation, we will figure out when we should schedule your first orthodontic appointment. We can also go over paperwork and figure out the best time to schedule a second appointment for your x-ray. This second appointment will usually take 3 hours and one of our West Haven orthodontic assistants will assist you in placing your new orthodontic appliance. In fact, our West Haven team will always strive to help you feel comfortable with all of our orthodontic work and whenever you come into our office.
Scheduling Orthodontic Appointments
To make sure that you are on the right track with your orthodontic treatments, we suggest that you visit our West Haven offices every four to eight weeks. Here at CT Braces, we try to make scheduling your appointment as easy as possible.
We know that certain events may happen in life and you might have to miss your appointment and reschedule. In the event that this occurs, please reach out to our West Haven office and we’ll try our best to reschedule you for a more convenient time.

West Haven Orthodontic Treatment Options
Child & Teenage Orthodontics & Teeth Straightening
Are you starting to notice crowding, spacing protruding, bad bites or any jaw growth problems in your child’s teeth? These could be a result of many different factors, but it’s better to treat the problem sooner rather than later. It could be the result of inherited features, injuries, early or late tooth loss or habits like thumb-sucking. Orthodontic treatments for adults will take longer than children because a child’s jaw will only harden toward the end of their teenage years.
When you bring your child into our West Haven office and they begin to receive our orthodontic treatments, we can help them prevent any major orthodontist procedures or surgeries in the future. If you start to notice that your 7 year old may need orthodontic treatments, please bring them into our West Haven office and schedule an initial appointment with us. Instead of ignoring the facts that are right in front of you, we can tackle any orthodontic problems straight away and start fixing them. We want your child to have a beautiful, straight smile that they can enjoy into their teenage years as well as adulthood.
Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment
To promote a healthy, beautiful smile for your child, we suggest that they begin with our Two-Phase treatment. This treatment combines three easy steps:
- The first phase of the treatment begins with our West Haven orthodontist providing a customized plan for your needs that could be covering issues such as jaw growth, tooth crowding or spacing issues. By using this treatment, your child’s permanent teeth are more likely to be aligned when they start to grow in.
- After coming to our West Haven office and receiving our treatment, we believe that your child should have a rest period to promote healing. This is also a period of time when their permanent teeth will be growing into place without the use of a retainer.
- After the rest period, they can then transfer to the second phase of the treatment plan. This phase includes having a full set of upper and lower braces to help align more permanent teeth.

West Haven Adult Orthodontics
There is a report by the American Association of Orthodontists that concludes one in five orthodontic patients are over the age of 21. This could simply be the result of poor dental care throughout life or simply because of the need for an orthodontist. Whatever the reason is, CT Braces of West Haven is here to assist you. We strive to help you achieve a bright, healthy smile.
In a comparison to child orthodontics, adults are more likely to face permanent damage or needs due to the increase of risk for gum or bone loss as well as worn or missing teeth.
The experts at CT Braces of West Haven understand that adults need orthodontic care too, so we can provide our services for any orthodontic problems you are currently experiencing. Want to learn more about what we have to offer? Please contact our orthodontic practice today for more answers.
West Haven Surgical Orthodontics (Orthognathic Surgery)
Surgical orthodontics, also known as orthognathic surgery, is used to treat severe issues in:
- Jaw bone formation
- Bad bites
- Malocclusion – misaligned teeth.
For jaws that aren’t aligned, there will be the need for surgical orthodontics as well as orthodontic braces to help your teeth have a straighter and healthier appeal. Your West Haven orthodontist will have an oral and maxillofacial surgeon take on your case at the hospital.
Normally, this orthodontic procedure will take a few hours and will need to be followed by a period of rest (at least two to four weeks). After your surgery and this period of time, you will need to have braces for about twelve months as well as a retainer to fully maintain the new placement of your teeth. Without this rigorous plan, your teeth may move back into an undesired position.
